SOLIA Flat Iron
Solia flat irons have won my choice for the #1 best flat iron that your money can buy!
When it comes down to affordability, technology, user experience, customer ratings, durability, color choices and my own personal experience, you just can’t beat the value that you can get with the Solia flat iron. At about half the price of GHD, $50 less than SEDU and about $30 less than CHI, you are really getting a lot of bang for your buck and it is definitely my favorite flat iron currently on the market.
Solia Flat Iron Technology
Before we really get to the review, I want to talk about Solia’s technology. This is one of the things that make them unique. First of all, their plates are ceramic material coated with tourmaline. You’ve probably heard a lot about tourmaline but, like me, you’re not really sure why it’s supposed to be so great. Well, tourmaline heats up fast, emits negative ions and protects your hair from damage.
It’s the negative ion technology that fights frizz and gets your hair looking so smooth. When your hair’s positively charged, it stands up like you put your finger in a light socket. The negative ions react with the positive charge. Solia’s flat irons emit 6 times more ions than a regular flat iron. What this does is it makes straightening your hair much quicker and you get a sleeker look.
Another thing that makes the heating so even is their Dynamic Alignment System. This uses an infra-red sensor to measure the heat it’s giving out. If one area of your hair is getting too hot, it automatically adjusts itself. This keeps the heat even, which gives you great results, and also helps to keep you from burning your hair.
>>> This Is Where You Can Buy A Solia Flat Iron
Another thing that makes them unique is all of their plate sizes. Plates range from 1” to 1 3/4” and you can choose the size that suits you best. If you have thick, unruly hair, you need the thicker plates. If you’re hair’s thinner, you can use the lighter ones. The plates also have wrap-around edges so that you can get the perfect finish each time and avoid excess hair pulling.
Finally, they have a temperature setting that ranges from 140 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. I have never seen a range that wide and in fact, I’ve rarely ever seen an iron that heats up that high.
Using Your Solia Flat Iron
Solia flat irons really have the power you need to fight frizz. They are designed to be usable on all kinds of hair and no matter how thick or frizzy it is, you can tame it. This is because of the temperature settings and the tourmaline material. You can also do other things with your Solia flat iron like straighten, curl or add waves very easily.
It only takes seconds for a Solia flat iron to heat up. I’ve read some reviews that say it heats up “instantly” but I wouldn’t go that far. It doesn’t heat up to 450 degrees a nanosecond after you flip the switch. But I’d definitely say it gets to its full temperature in a matter of seconds.
These flat irons are designed for maximum comfort and ease of use. They have contoured handles that are easy to hold and they’re easy to maneuver. The plates are shaped the way they are so that it doesn’t pull your hair when you run it over a strand. Their flat irons also come with a 9-foot swivel cord that swivels 360 degrees. This means that you can use it anywhere and you don’t have to worry about the cord getting tangled up.
What I really like about Solia flat irons is that they don’t fry the ends of your hair. Even though the plates get really hot, you don’t have to worry about burning. And that’s a huge relief after using some of the cheap straighteners out there. But I’ve heard from some other reviews that you need some kind of heat protectant if you’re going to use it at its highest temperatures.
Lots Of Styles
Solia flat irons come in a variety of shapes and colors. Their flat irons come in black, pink, purple, red and more. The black irons have blue heating plates and the other colors have black plates. I especially like the limited edition pink Solia flat irons. Okay, they’re a little bit over-the-top girly, but I still think they look cool. The Solia Pink is very cool because the entire thing is pink including the plates, handle and cord. And even though it’s “limited edition,” you can still buy it easily.
The Downsides Of Solia
There is really only one thing that I don’t like about Solia flat irons. If you use them at high temperatures, the handle can get a little bit uncomfortably warm. Some reviews I’ve seen said that even at low temperatures the handles get hot. There are some brands out there (Chi comes to mind) that stay amazingly cool even when the plates are hot. While I wouldn’t say that it’s as bad as the regular cheap straighteners, Solia flat irons definitely do get a bit warm, but it has not bothered me at all.
Some reviews I read said that some folks had issues with the irons slipping or falling out after a few months. That wasn’t the case for me, but all I can say is make sure you get the warranty just in case.
I think the best thing about Solia flat irons is the frizz protection. Even if you have seriously frizzy hair, these irons can get the job done. I guess that all that stuff about “negative ion technology” really does mean something after all!
If you are on a budget and want to get a professional hairstyling tool for under $100, then you will be so happy to discover Solia.

I just received my Solia hair dryer in the mail from Folica and I just can’t believe how amazing it is! I have always had to use my flat iron as well as my hair dryer to style my hair and I had no need to use my flat iron after using the Solia hair dryer. I just can’t believe the difference. My styling time was also cut in half with this thing. I just can’t say enough great things about it. So glad that I spent the extra money to get this. Totally worth it!!!
I’ve tried a lot of different flat irons and the best one for me is the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it works great, it has tourmaline ceramic plates that cause less damage to the hair and keeps it soft, shiny, frizz less and super straight.
Good review. I’ve tried different brands of products and I prefer the Karmin Professional Titanium flat iron, it works pretty good, removes static and leaves my hair silky and shiny, and it’s less damaging than chemical treatments.
I have never personally tried the Karmin flat iron, but you are the second person to recommend this brand, so I may need to get one to check it out. Thanks.
I LOVE the color choices and of course the price!!! Can’t beat it for the quality that you are getting in Solia.
I agree with you. That’s what I’m trying to tell everybody. Thanks for checking out my site.
I used a Corioliss for years, and even though it was great for curling, it was not reliable at all (had to have it replaced while under warranty, would cut in and out, etc.)
I recently bought a Solia from Folica when my Corioliss finally died for good this time, and am disappointed because while it straightens well, it does not curl well! The thing I liked about my Corioliss was that the back side of the iron also got up to 450, not just the plates, leading to very strong curls that would stay for up to 3 days (and my hair is very resistant to curling.)
So my question is, which of the other straighteners are good for strong curls? Folica recommends the GHD as the best for curling, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay that much, or if I wanted the aluminum plates it comes with. Don’t ceramic/tourmaline plates give you smoother results/less damage? Or is that a myth?
Folica’s second recommendation is the Sedu Revolution…have you tried curling with either of these? Do your curls stay all day?
Hello Jasmin,
I’m so glad my site has been helpful to you! When it comes to using the flat iron for big curls, I honestly don’t use my flat irons for that. When I want big curls I use my curling iron (and my curls will last three or four days too). I’ve tried out the ghd (which does not have aluminum pates, they are ceramic), and was not really impressed for the money you spend. You can’t control the heat and it takes several passes to get my hair straight.
I would recommend the Sedu Revolution if you want to curl as well as straighten. You can control the temperature to get it as hot as 450. I’ ve used it to curl the ends of my hair, and that worked well. None of the flat irons get hot on the outside (that I have used atleast), just the plates. I think the Sedu Revolution is your best bet though. Hope that helps. Let me know how it works though!
Thanks,
Marissa
I guess I’ll have to try the Sedu then, and if it doesn’t work, send it back as well. (Gahhh! I hate paying all that shipping back and forth for a product that doesn’t meet your needs!)
I thought it was odd that Folica has the plates on the ghd classic listed as aluminum…I checked the official ghd website, and sure enough, they’re ceramic.
